Director’s Note

Eight Walls Two Doors is a story about parallel spaces. I extracted the space directly from the apartment I grew up in: the damp. dark hallway, the fold-up table, the smell of anticipation before summer storms. I close my eyes to dream of this Chinese apartment in my Brooklyn apartment.

I want to explore in this story the active experience and constant grief of living in two spaces at once, not just within memory, but alongside a reality that only continues to exist for yourself. This place takes on a life of its own, growing and taking over our bodies, especially when evidences of events in this place are intentionally erased from documented history.
